POETRY AFRICA (article first published : 2003-05-3)

Presented by the Centre for Creative Arts (University of Natal), the seventh festival will take place from May 26 to 31.

Over 20 poets representing 13 different countries give presentations and performances nightly at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre

Numerous other activities include seminars and workshops; interactive exchanges in tertiary institutions and schools; music and poetry; slam poetry; poetry competitions; poetry in prison; poetry with street children. There will be performance opportunities for amateur poets; as well as satellite events in other centres.

International participants include Jaap Blonk (Netherlands), Tianxin Cai (China), Denisa Comanescu (Romania), Bob Holman (USA), Norman Kester (Canada/S.A.), Akeem Lasisi (Nigeria), Patricia Nolan (Ireland), Anzhelina Polonskaya (Russia), Susan Stenson (Canada), Edwin Thumboo (Singapore), Timothy Wangusa (Uganda), Musa Zimunya (Zimbabwe), Abdallah Zrika (Morocco) and others.

Representing South Africa are Robert Berold, Dennis Brutus, Evelyn Cresswell, Kgafela oa Magogodi, Lebogang Mashile, Don Mattera and Lesego Rampolokeng (S.A.).
