BOTSOTSO FOUNDER FOR LIVE POETS (article first published : 2003-04-6)

“The cutting edge of South African poetry today is to be found in the Johannesburg-based literary journal Botsotso which was founded by Allan Kolski Horwitz in 1994,” says Brett Beiles of Durban’s Live Poets Society.

A much-published poet and short story writer with several books to his credit, he is especially coming to Durban to present the latest issue of Botsotso and other publications, including a CD of "eltroacoustic poetics", to the next meeting of the Live Poets Society. This will take place at 17h30 on April 9 in Adams Books Coffee Shop at Musgrave Centre. This one-off presentation should not be missed by anyone interested in contemporary poetry.

“Afterwards those attending will have a chance to do their own thing,” adds Brett. “As Family Day takes place this month, the evening's theme is Family.”

Poets who have written anything which could be linked to this topic in any of its manifestations will have an opportunity of presenting it. Then during the Poet Pourri session they can air their work on any subject they wish.

Entrance is free and all are welcome. More details from Brett on 031 26 4762 or 082 516 0517, or e-mail thirdeye@3i.co.za
