COMMONWEALTH WRITERS PRIZE (article first published : 2002-10-27)

Entries are invited for the 2003 Commonwealth Writers Prize, Africa Region. Works of prose fiction, novels or collections of shorts stories written in English and published between January 1 and December 31 are eligible. There are two categories: Best Book and Best First Book. The regional prize for each category is 1,000. The overall or final prize for the Best Book is 10,000 and 3,000 for the Best First Book.

The deadline for entries is November 15. Special arrangements can be made for books published in December 2002.

Three copies of each entry, along with the entry forms should be mailed to: Prof A.W. Oliphant, Theory of Literature, University of South Africa, PO Box 392, Pretoria 0001.

If books are couriered, please specify the physical address: Prof A.W. Oliphant, Theory of Literature, Room 10-75, Theo van Wijk Building, University of South Africa, Mucleneuk, Pretoria.

One copy of each entry should also be sent to The Administrator: Commonwealth Writers Prize, Book Trust, Book House, 45 East Hill, London SW18 2QZ, UK
