ART SOUTH AFRICA (article first published : 2002-07-20)

Bell-Roberts Publishing, Cape Town, is proud to announce the launch of an exciting new quarterly print magazine on contemporary South African art.

Art South Africa will address the urgent need for high quality coverage of the arts and will present advertisers with a unique opportunity to communicate with an audience of art lovers and creative people whose interests are not currently served by any other South African publication.

Focusing primarily on visual art but also encompassing architecture, design, fashion, digital media and art-related books, the magazine will provide a much-needed forum for critical writing. It will also serve to stimulate interest in South African art at home and abroad. Contributors will include South Africa¹s leading critics and writers. Each edition will feature profiles of established and emerging artists, news and opinion on current cultural debates in the global art world, and reviews, previews and listings of exhibitions across the country.

Art South Africa will target a well-defined and affluent niche market – art buyers, critics, curators, artists, researchers, educationists and the creative industry. It will be a glossy, full-colour 22x28cm magazine, published four times a year. The magazine will be sold in upmarket bookshops, art galleries and museums in South Africa and internationally and through an aggressive ongoing subscriptions drive (the subscriber base is already growing rapidly). Enjoying a close relationship with the Bell-Roberts Art Gallery, the magazine benefits from an existing infrastructure and network of local and international contacts.

The first Spring edition will be published at the end of August, with an initial print run of 3,000. Space deadline is August 12 with material deadline being August 19. Rate cards will be forwarded to those interested.

Galleries are invited to take out advertising in the magazine and also to have upcoming shows included in a paid listings section at a nominal fee of R150 per issue (covering a three-month period). Galleries are also asked to send schedules of upcoming exhibitions (July to November) as soon as possible to sophie@bell-roberts.com for editorial planning purposes.
