FEATURE WRITING COMPETITION (article first published : 2002-05-21)

It's time for writers to start preparing for the third annual Natal Witness Feature Writing Competition, which is proving to be a rich source of strange and exotic tales about KZN.

Once again, The Witness is looking for a story about an aspect of KwaZulu-Natal life, past or present, that is true, written with feeling, original and a rattling good read. To get an idea of what we're looking for, see last year's finalist stories on our website at www.witness.co.za

Entries must be in English and no longer than 2000 words. They may be submitted via e-mail or post, although the Witness cannot be responsible for the loss of entries en route to their offices. Do not enclose visuals; you will be contacted if such material is required. If entry sent as an e-mail attachment please include contact details in the same document as the story. Editing is at the discretion of The Natal Witness, and all entries become the property of the newspaper. Manuscripts will not be returned. Stories must be wholly and completely true; any entry found to contain fictional content will be disqualified.

Ten finalists will be selected and their articles published in the newspaper over several weeks, starting at the beginning of July. The winner will be announced on September 6, 2002. Send your entries to: The Natal Witness/Shuter and Shooter feature competition, PO Box 362, Pietermaritzburg, 3200 or e-mail features@witness.co.za. The closing date for entries is June 18, 2002.
