SANCTA – 2002 (article first published : 2002-05-6)

This is a reminder that The SA National Community Theatre Association is running its third annual New SA one act Play Writing Competition. As part of the SANCTA Gauteng 2002 multi-faceted arts festival (run by the SA National Community Theatre Association - Gauteng Province) to run between June and August 2002, Sancta is sponsoring a new one act play writing competition for the third consecutive year.

The play must be in English or Afrikaans. Regretfully, due to adjudication restrictions, other languages cannot be entertained. It is only open to non-professional writers. Those who have had works published or performed previously must provide full details thereof. The play must perform for a period of between 20 to 45 minutes and have a minimum of two characters. A synopsis of the setting and characters must be given together with as much stage direction as possible. The script must be typed (preferably in double line spacing).

SANCTA reserves the right to make copies of the script, for possible later use (with the author's permission) though writers can make arrangements for the original to be returned to them. The entry fee is R100 per script payable upon submission of the script to SANCTA. The closing date is May 15. No correspondence will be entered into regarding the winning choices.

Entries to be posted to Noel McDonald, PO Box 61344, Marshalltown, 2107. Or phone 011 636-2936 (w) or 011 475 3584 (h).

As part of the winning prize, if feasible, the play will be done as an enacted play reading during the performance weeks of SANCTA Gauteng Festival. It will however be entered into next year’s festival if a suitable group can be found to perform it. The total prize money will be R1,000 and allocated between one to three prizes at SANCTA'S discretion.
