ADAMS BOOKS BACKS LIVE POETS (article first published : 2002-02-23)

The Live Poets' Society have been offered a new home for their meetings by Adams Books in Musgrave Centre. Proprietor Peter Adams as well as store manager Ronelle Moller and members of staff have generously agreed to keep their coffee shop open after hours one night per month for the sole use of the group at no cost.

The initial agreement is for meetings to take place on the second Wednesday of March, April and May - after which Adams and the Society will assess the situation. The first meeting is scheduled for March 13 at 17h30 for 18h00.

The featured presenter on March 13 is well-known award-winning playwright, author and poet Dennis Rubin. After his presentation and a short Q&A discussion, practising poets are invited to read any poems they may have written relating to the theme of Freedom - no matter how oblique these may be to the subject. Although this is in recognition of Freedom Day (commemorating the Sharpeville Massacre in 1960) which takes place eight days later, the poems need not be political. The gathering will conclude with an open session in which members may present any of their works regardless of subject.

With the friendly ambience of Adams Bookshop and coffee shop, easy access, and secure parking in the centre - the Society expects to hold many well-attended and vibrant meetings at this new venue. Everybody is welcome, and there is no membership subscription or cover charge.
