RED DUST (article first published : 2002-02-20)

Well-known author Gillian Slovo is to launch a new book next week titled Red Dust.

Her memoir Every Secret Thing: My Family, My Country was a best-seller, reminding readers that the experience of freedom fighters such as her parents had dramatic effects on their families.

In Red Dust she once more returns to South African concerns, in a gripping courtroom drama that examines the compelling events of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Set in the fictional Smitsrivier it draws the prime protagonists back into their pasts to explore questions of morality and honour, issues of reconciliation and retribution, intimacy and torture and the ambiguities of the 'truth' that eludes a country and its people seeking answers.

Red Dust appeared as a trade paperback last year.
