NASHVILLE (article first published : 2002-02-20)

As part of its six-month “The Poet’s Eye” poetry programme, Kwasuka Theatre Company will focus on the humorous verse of Ogden Nash. Titled Nashville, the hour-long dramatised reading will take place at Kwasuka Theatre on February 24 and 25 at 18h00.

A quick look at some of the titles indicates the sense of fun contained in the verse: Possession are nine points of conversation; Piano Tuner, Untune Me That Tune; The Seven Spiritual Ages of Mrs Marmaduke Moore and How do you say Ha-Ha in French?! The cast will be Pieter Scholtz, Jacqui Logie and Dennis Schauffer.

The programme was compiled by Pieter Scholtz about 25 years ago when he presented it at the Ocean Terminal with then University of Natal drama students Clive Rodel (former head of English Drama at SABC) and Deon van Zyl (now joint producer of Egoli).

Tickets R25 include a free glass of wine which may be taken into the auditorium in the plastic glasses bought for this purpose.

Season tickets for the year’s programme are R105. Please note that while dates remain the same, the titles of the rest of the programme have changed:

February 24 & 25: Nashville (Ogden Nash); March 31 & April 1: A Littoral Zone (Douglas Livingstone); April 28 & 29: Giovanni Jacopo Meditates (Douglas Livingstone)’; May 26 & 27: Poetry Jamboree (all comers); June 30 & July 1: After Liverpool (James Saunders poetic/dramatic sketches), and July 28 & 29: Do Not Go Gentle (Dylan Thomas)
