SEBASTIAN FAULKS (article first published : 2001-06-2)

BBC HARDtalk on June 6 features award-winning author Sebastian Faulks in conversation with Sarah Montague.

Sebastian Faulks has received widespread critical acclaim for his novels which have been regulars on the bestseller lists. His best known, Birdsong which sold more than 500,000 copies, is a deeply moving and highly evocative account of one man's experience of the First World War.

Other books, Charlotte Gray and The Girl at the Lion D'Or are set in France during the Second World War and the inter war period. They're all painful and traumatic love stories. His latest book On Green Dolphin Street continues in a similar vein but moves away from the war years in Europe to 1950's America. Sebastian Faulks talks to Sarah Montague about his fascination with a time long-gone but not forgotten.

HARDtalk is shown on BBC WORLD at 08h30, 11h30, 13h30, 18h30, 20h30 and 01h30 each weekday and additionally at 13h30 and 05h30 from Tuesday to Saturday
