POETRY AFRICA (article first published : 2001-03-21)

Poetry Africa is an annual poetry festival to be held this year from May 28 to June 2.

Over 20 poets representing approximately 15 countries will present and perform their work nightly at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre. Other activities include poetry workshops and discussion groups, performance opportunities for amateur poets, music and poetry, poetry competitions, and wide-reaching school visits.

Confirmed participants thus far include Chirikuri Chirikuri (Zimbabwe), Claude Darbellay (Switzerland), David Dabydeen (Guyana), Nidaa Khouri (Israel), Taban lo Liyong (Sudan), John Mateer (Australia), Amir Or (Israel), Ilja Pfeiffer (Netherlands), Remi Raji (Nigeria), Amina Said (Tunisia), Lasana M.Sekou (St.Martin) and Yvette Christiaanse (SA/USA) as well as South African poets Sandile Dikeni, Antjie Krog, Nise Malange and Ari Sitas.
