THE LIST (article first published : 2007-10-17)

The countdown has begun to the announcement of Exclusive Books end-of-year selection of the 50 best books to give or get this festive season. The List is an exciting and well-established Exclusive Books tradition that bibliophiles and book lovers eagerly wait for every year and 2007 will be no exception.

This year will see Exclusive Books change the name from Publishers’ Choice to The List.

“The development of The List is really a labour of love on the part of our staff and we believe that it is the definitive Festive Season buyers’ guide to the very best books available,” says Batya Green-Bricker, marketing manager of Exclusive Books. “We cater for a broad spectrum of tastes with our Festive Season selection and look for special books that make beautiful gifts. People often find it hard to find the right book and The List is the result of years of customers asking for help with gift books.

“Exclusive Books is always right on top of trends in bookselling and has an uncanny knack for tapping into the zeitgeist of the market, and The List reflects this insight. We look for the “hottest”, most delicious books to create not a list, but the must-have list for books.”

The 2007 List includes a broad range of genres and interests from cookery and biographies, to religion and spiritualism, history, feisty politics, business, environmental concerns, fascinating science, Afrikaans literature, beach reads, sports commentary, coffee tables tomes, fascinating travel and of course fabulous humour, “It’s such a compelling list this year, the hardest part will be giving away the books you’ve bought,” concludes Batya Green-Bricker.

The List will be officially launched to the public on October 19.
