ALLAN HORWITZ FOR LIPS (article first published : 2007-08-20)

The next gathering of the Live Poets Society will take place on August 28 and the guest artist will be Allan Kolski Horwitz who will present Botsotso’s latest publications.

Allan Kolski Horwitz is one of South Africa’s most prolific and respected writers, with several collections of poetry and fiction to his name. A leading light in Johannesburg-based Botsotso Publishing and the Botsotso Jesters performance group, he and his collective are probably the most prolific avant-garde publisher in South Africa. In addition to books by individuals, their regular Botsotso literary and arts journal is highly regarded nationally and internationally.

A seasoned and charismatic performer, Allan Horwitz will come to Durban especially to present Botsotso’s latest publications at the next gathering of the Live Poets’ Society (LiPS). He will also read selections from his own most recent poetry collection Saving Water.

As this is Women’s Month, he has nominated “Women” as the evening’s theme. Those who have written poems which link to this engaging subject are welcome to present them after the main event. Then in the Poet Pourri session, poems on any subject may be aired.

The Live Poets Society meeting takes place on August 28 at 18h00 in the Quarterdeck of the Point Yacht Club. All are welcome to this free event, regardless of whether they write poetry. There is a cash bar and guarded parking available at R5. Poetry lovers of all ages attend LiPS, from school-goers to seniors. Meetings run until about 20h30.
