WOMEN: A GRAMMATICAL ERA (article first published : 2007-08-10)

Women – a Grammatical Era is a programme of contemporary poetry, verse and narrative by four women wordsmiths which is running at the Catalina Theatre in Wilson’s Wharf for a short season over the Woman’s Day long weekend.

The production is described as a “Collection of Words” articulating the complexity, subtleties, vulnerabilities and contradictions of being a young woman writing, working and living in South Africa today at this time of reflection brought about by Woman’s Day. It provides the writers an opportunity to share with WORDS, expressing the meaning of life; the past, the present and the future through words.

The writers / performers, who go by their nom-de-plumes of Lexikon, Mbali, Lerato and Purity, have a special blend of spoken words, showcasing their talent arsenal and taking the audience on a journey, through their eyes, exploring the contemporary young woman.

Promising a captivating experience from beginning to end, the four brave and expressive young women do justice to the occasion. They offer a strong and natural presence on the stage, taking the regular poetry jam session and moulding it into a full-bodied theatrical show to be enjoyed by all.

Women – a Grammatical Era runs at Catalina Theatre until August 12 nightly at 20h00 (Sunday at 18h00). Tickets R30 are available at the box office at Catalina Theatre on 031 305 6889.
