MORE JEREPIGO GEMS FOR KZN (article first published : 2007-05-6)

Last year, veteran South African actor Patrick Mynhardt performed his show More Jerepigo at a farm in the KZN Midlands. He so enjoyed the audience and the atmosphere that he requested that Lions River host a show again this year. He told last year’s audiences that never in all his years as an actor had he acted in an old barn on a stage of an even older ox wagon (which is strange considering the topics of his renowned plays).

At the age of 74, Patrick Mynhardt has been an actor for more than 50 years. He lives in Johannesburg and has no plans to retire. He was quoted saying, with a hint of a smile… "Retire? What would I do? I can do nothing but talk shit". He was born in the small Free State town of Bethulie in 1932 to an Afrikaner father and an Irish mother, and - he says – retains aspects of his Irish heritage. His Afrikaner side emerges in his storytelling abilities.

Patrick has brought the stories of Charles Bosman to life for thousands of people and given them much to laugh about in Oom Schalk Lourens' view of the world. This year Patrick Mynhardt will present a few stories from Herman Charles Bosman's A Cold Stone Jug as well as some of Oom Schalk Lourens's stories.

Presented by The Lions River Club, More Jerepigo Gems with Patrick Mynhardt takes place on June 1 and 2 at 18h00 at G B McKenzie’s Farm “Singletree” - once again, in the old barn.

Tickets R100 include hot homemade soup and fresh bread rolls. A cash bar will be available. Booking is essential. All tickets were sold out last year, so book early! Contact Fran Walters on 082 539 6763 or email: francesp@frpafrica.co.za
