DAN POYNTER (article first published : 2007-03-13)

Dan Poynter, author of more than 120 books and a publisher since 1969, will be in Durban this month for a seminar that he has presented in many different countries and that has launched the careers of many authors.

Dan Poynter has been called an evangelist for books, an ombudsman for authors, an advocate for publishers and the godfather to thousands of successfully published books. His seminars have been featured on CNN, his books featured in the Wall Street Journal and his story told in US News & World Report. He is also a Certified Speaking Professional (CSP) and public speakers as well as authors benefit from his seminars.

The Self-Publishing Manual by Dan Poynter is a best-seller on amazon.com and Dan is known as the Guru of Self-Publishing. Some 20,000 manuscripts leave South Africa every year for London and only about 20 get published. Self-publishing is a viable alternative to traditional publishing - that is how John Grisham and Stephen King started.

Dan Poynter will be covering various topics, including how to ensure there is a market for your book, finding time to write, sourcing relevant quotations and stories, breaking your project into easy-to-attack chunks, getting the project ready for the printer, making an informed choice between looking for an agent or publisher and publishing yourself, and marketing strategies that work.

This content-rich, enthusiasm-building, informative seminar will take place at the Durban Country Club on March 24 from 08h30 to 13h00. The cost is R300 (R250 for Early Bird special if paid for by March 15). Booking essential through Val Waldeck on 083 273 4700, email: vwaldeck@telkomsa.net or visit www.valwaldeck.com/cws/Dan_Poynter.htm
