THEATRE ON PODOL (article first published : 2001-05-19)

Dear friends,

Today we are on the threshold of the new millennium. We are confident that a development of the world cultures and arts will be mutually moving. A great distance divides Ukraine from such countries as Republic of South Africa and Australia. Culture and art of those countries are almost unknown to the citizens of Ukraine.

Taking into account the above-mentioned I've decided to write to you (your co-ordinates have been given to us by the Embassy of Republic of South Africa in Ukraine).

Theatre of Podol, headed by me Vitaly Malakhov, is the theatre that loves participating in various festivals and we also actively work on hosting the festivals and tours of various theatres and art projects in Kiev and other cities of Ukraine. Our theatre is very much interested in cooperation with you. It promises to be extremely exciting for us. Please, notify us on the possibilities we have. If you need some specific information, tell me, I would be glad to send it to you. I am very much interested in maintaining communication with you.

Hope for future cooperation.

Best wishes from Vitaly Malakhov (e-mail: theatre@ukrpost.net)

The company has toured extensively and has been lauded in Ukraine, Russia, USA, Greece, Egypt, Costa Rica, and many other countries around the globe. It has already become a tradition for the theatre to take part in Edinburgh Theatre Festival. In 1994 the company took the risk of bringing two Shakespearean productions “Midsummer Night’s Dream” and “Iago” after “Othello” for the festival – a watershed year for Theatre on Podol.
