NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. The 1st July, 2007 will mark what would have been the late Princess Diana’s 46th birthday. In honour of her legacy, M-Net will dedicate an entire channel on DSTV to this legendary figure. From June 29 until July 3, DSTV Channel 37 will play host to M-Net’s tribute to Diana, featuring a thrilling variety of programmes showcasing all aspects of the Princess’s life. Viewers will be able to enjoy a broad selection of shows about Diana, with the highlight being the Concert for Diana to be screened live on July 1 from Wembley Stadium! Diana: a Tribute on DSTV Channel 37 will feature over 14 hours of brand new programming about Diana, as well as some hard-hitting documentaries. Viewers can look forward to shows documenting the ups and downs of the Princess’s life and will also be able to catch a glimpse of the work that her children, Prince William and Prince Harry< have been doing since their mother’s death. A particular highlight for South African audiences will be Forgotten Kingdom: Prince Harry in Lesotho, which documents Prince Harry’s passionate charity work with children afflicted with HIV/AIDS in Lesotho. The channel will also be screening a recently filmed interview with the Princes, conducted by NBC’s Matt Laurer which promises to be one of the most candid interviews with William and Harry to date. Head of M-Net Channels, Jan du Plessis, says that M-Net’s dedication of an entire Channel to Diana is a fitting way to pay homage to “The People’s Princess” in the year that also marks the 10th anniversary of her death. “M-Net is proud to bring this tribute to its subscribers, as we acknowledge Diana’s life and achievements at the same time as her sons celebrate her birthday.” The Concert for Diana, arranged by Princes William and Harry in celebration of their mother’s birthday, features a star-studded line-up including the likes of Elton John, Duran Duran, Joss Stone and Sir Andrew Lloyd-Webber. M-Net viewers who do not have DSTV will be able to enjoy Concert for Diana on July 4 at 21h00. Diana: a Tribute will commence on Channel 37 on June 29 at 20h00.
