DUCK SOUP (article first published : 2006-04-25)

On April 27, the Pietermaritzburg University Club is screening Duck Soup, Leo McCarey's 1933 Marx Brothers comedy.

Duck Soup is one of the Marx Brothers' most anarchic comedies and is widely regarded as amongst their best. The plot, to the extent that one can talk about a Marx Brothers movie having a plot, concerns the conflict between the nations of Freedonia (under the dictatorship of Groucho's Rufus T Firefly), and Sylvania (which employs Harpo and Chico as secret agents). Mussolini was offended and banned the film in Italy.

Films are shown at 18h00 in the CVA lecture theatre, Ridge Road, Pietermaritzburg. Safe parking is available.
