ZERO TOLERANCE (article first published : 2006-04-6)

Explosive action and stirring drama can be expected as SABC 2 presents the third series of popular local police series Zero Tolerance, an investigative production due to appear on SABC 2 screens from April 7 at 21h00.

“Once again, we are proud to present this exceptional local programme to our viewers,” says Ed Worster, Head of SABC 2 Programming. “The fact that Zero Tolerance 1 and 2 were so popular with the audience reflects the quality of this show. The production represents South Africa, so the stories will appeal to South Africans.

Zero Tolerance provides more insight than your average investigative drama series. This riveting show also thrusts pertinent issues concerning South Africa and its neighbouring countries to the fore. Viewers can expect engaging acting and explosive content about politics and corruption, celebrity and drugs, diamond dealings and illegal gold transactions, corruption in sport, the dangers posed by religious cults and more.”

Each hour-long episode promises a star-studded cast, brilliant acting and a riveting storyline. In the new season, Hilton Du Bois (Terence Bridgett) takes over as head of the Zero Tolerance 3 Unit. Newcomers to the unit, razor-sharp Emma Mokgotsi (Nthati Moshesh, who trained at Durban Institute of Technology) and feisty Hannalie de Kock (Sandra Vaughn), join long-time detectives Sakkie Bezuidenhout (Ben Kruger) and Simiso Mtshali (Meshack Mavuso) on their crime-busting assignments.

Zero Tolerance 3 director Hilary Blecher states: “The difference between the third season of Zero Tolerance and the previous two is that the interest of the series is no longer confined to South Africa, it now includes our country’s relationship with bordering neighbours.”

The first episode entitled The Cure sets the tone for this gripping investigative series. A Unabomber is killing members of the public including a valued member of the Zero Tolerance Unit. The bomber’s motives seem political and the Unit tries to ascertain whether this is a right or left wing attacker.

In a tense and dangerous investigation, the Unit discovers the motives and identity of the killer. This enthralling episode features multi-award-winning actor Sean Taylor who now lives in Australia. Also included in the cast is popular radio star Pabi Moloi, who for the first time, appears in a television drama. Charlotte Butler and Norman Anstey also star in this episode.

The Zero Tolerance unit busts crime, exposing the intricate and sometimes disturbing reasons why perpetrators perform such heinous acts against society. Tune in to Zero Tolerance every Friday evening at 21h00!
