NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. Paradise Now, which has been nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Foreign Language category, has been brought back to Durban screens by popular demand by Videovision Entertainment. Paradise Now was re-released in Durban at NuMetro Pavilion from February 10. Palestine’s official entry in the Academy Awards, Paradise Now is a fascinating and moving story about two young Palestinian suicide bombers which follows them in the 24 hours leading up to a suicide attack. Friends since childhood, Khaled and Said are recruited to carry out a suicide bombing in Tel Aviv, however things do not go as planned and they have to face their destiny and their convictions on their own. The film opened the Durban International Film Festival last year with its lead star, Kais Nashef in attendance and won the Best Director prize at the Festival, as well as Best Picture at the Three Continents Film Festival and the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film.
