NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. How do different artists capture the same sitter? In each programme of Star Portraits on BBC Prime on DStv, a well-known personality has their portrait painted by three professional artists, each of whom will be doing their best to capture the essence of the celebrity sitter using their own particular style. Rolf Harris is the guide through the painting process, explaining the various techniques and sharing the highs and lows with the artist. Finally, all three finished portraits are revealed - but which one will the celebrity choose to keep - and why? Subjects in this series are singer and presenter Cilla Black, chat show host Michael Parkinson, comedian Ade Edmondson, the late Member of Parliament Mo Mowlam, and actor Richard Wilson.
