ANNUAL GOLDEN GLOBE AWARDS (article first published : 2006-01-8)

M-Net is to screen the 63rd Annual Golden Globe Awards on January 17 at 20h30. The ceremony promises to be the most dazzling salute to the world’s most favorite movies and television programmes.

One of the most popular worldwide entertainment awards shows, the Golden Globe Awards is a three-hour, star-studded programme that features film clips and stars from some of the most important motion pictures and television programs of the year. Voted on by the prestigious Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the Golden Globes has honoured outstanding achievement in both motion pictures and television for more than 50 years, making it one of the few ceremonies to cover both industries.

With the move of the Academy Awards to late February, now more than ever the Golden Globe Awards serves as the acknowledged precursor to the race for the Oscar. Some of the 2005 winners of these prestigious awards included Leonardo DiCaprio (The Aviator), Hilary Swank (Million Dollar Baby), Jamie Foxx (Ray), Annette Bening (Being Julia), Natalie Portman (Closer), and Clint Eastwood (Million Dollar Baby).

Other notable recent winners include Sean Penn (Mystic River), Diane Keaton (Something’s Gotta Give), Bill Murray (Lost in Translation), Renee Zellweger (Cold Mountain), Charlize Theron (Monster), and Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation).

Join the annual salute to your favorite movies and television programs on the 63rd Golden Globe Awards.
