BIG BROTHER AFRICA (article first published : 2003-04-24)

Mark Pilgrim, popular host of Big Brother 1 and Big Brother 2, will now take on the challenge of presenting the first continental Big Brother show ever produced. Having become one of the most familiar television faces with fans from across the continent, he will once again act as the only link between the housemates and the outside world once they enter the Big Brother house on May 25.

Having done both live and recorded television work as well as working professionally as a voice-over artist, Mark prefers live TV. “I love live TV. You’ve got 7 cameras taping, two different producers talking to you through your ear-piece and no second takes which makes it all quite a challenge.”

Meanwhile Big Brother 2Big Brother world but this time she’s firmly behind the scenes. The 27-year-old former accountant who earned the nickname “Disapproving Sister” in Big Brother 2 will act as artist manager for Big Brother Africa housemates. She will be responsible for the housemates’ well-being, co-ordinating their public and commercial appearances before and after they go into the Big Brother house.

“The cultural diversity of the show is going to create such a great cultural dynamic. The very fact that it’s different from BB1 and BB2 makes for a program with a broader appeal and I believe that the whole continent will be gripped by Big Brother Africa,’’ says Mark Pilgrim.

Big Brother Africa will broadcast live 24-7 on DStv Channel 37 for 106 days from May 25 at 17h00. M-Net (South Africa) will broadcast an omnibus package consisting of a week’s episodes on Sunday mornings between 10h00 to 13h00. Every eviction Sunday, M-Net (South Africa) will broadcast a delayed eviction show after the 20h00 Movie Premiere.
