NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. Corne and Twakkie make their much anticipated television debut in The Most Amazing Show starting January 3 at 22h00 on SABC 2. The 13-part series is breakthrough South African comedy that comes without culture, class or clan restrictions. Defying description, the show includes chat, skits, sketches and an animated character. It’s fresh, exciting and un-missable, a one-hour extravaganza with aspirations of becoming a trailer park soap opera. Perhaps better described by Twakkie, it is “a veritable potjiekos of entertainment…if you are a vegetarian, it’s more like a fruit salad of fun!” These mullet mustachio-ed 1980’s time-warped eccentric masters of comedy have found a cult-like following in their stage shows. Already, their catchphrases “Could you believe it?” and “my guys, ladyguys and guyladies” are becoming common lingo. Says Mathe Mosito, marketing manager SABC 2: “We are over the moon with The Most Amazing Show. This is local talent at its best. They have created late night television playtime like has never been done before. Viewers are going to have to see it to believe it.”
