WILD WEST (article first published : 2005-07-21)

An eccentric coastal Cornish village is featured in Wild West, a BBC Prime comedy series on DStv.

Life is as colourful as ever in St Gweep. Mary (Dawn French) and her neurotic partner Angela (Catherine Tate) have decided to end their “special” relationship and explore life as single women.

PC Alan attracts Mary's attention when he has to solve a mysterious crime, but she soon finds a rival in sweet, sensitive, naive Holly. Old Jake (David Bradley) discovers a daughter he never knew he had, and Angela has a stressful week, when she has to learn to drive in time for a visit from her father.

A trio of strange white horses, a visiting film crew and an outbreak of “Cornish Flu” are also among the surreal delights of this entertaining and unpredictable comedy.

Written by acclaimed comedy writer Simon Nye (Men Behaving Badly), the cast includes comedian Bill Bailey as Doug. The first episode can be seen on July 22 at 21h30.
