INFACT FILM SERIES (article first published : 2003-04-15)

The International Documentary Association’s (IDA) InFACT™ Film Series, which qualifies feature and short length films for Academy Award® consideration, is currently seeking high quality, international documentary film submissions.”

The InFACT™ Film Series (formerly DOCtober™) is an annual, weeklong showcase for independent documentary works designed to celebrate the range and power of non-fiction film making around the world. Since 1997, DOCtober™ has screened and qualified numerous documentaries. Nine of these garnered Oscar™ nominations with two winning the coveted award. The InFACTTM Film Series will be held in Los Angeles during August 15 to 21. The deadline for submissions is April 25 (see www.documentary.org for submission guidelines).

Headquartered in Los Angeles, IDA was founded in 1982 as a non profit membership organisation dedicated to supporting the efforts of non fiction film and video makers throughout the world; promoting the documentary form; expanding opportunities for production, distribution and exhibition of documentary. In 2002 membership was increased to nearly 2,800, encompassing 50 countries across the world, and more members are expected in 2003.

“Today we feel as strongly about our mission as we did twenty years ago,” says Marion Renk-Rosenthal, Filmmaker and Festival Committee Volunteer. “We are increasingly trying to extend our reach internationally and feel this is vital for the documentary form to receive the recognition it deserves.”
