GROUND FORCE (article first published : 2005-07-7)

On July 7 at 21h00, BBC Prime on DStv present their popular programme Ground Force.

The Ground Force team has built a high profile “Garden for Africa” in the courtyard of the British Museum in London. The garden celebrates the continent's heritage in both horticulture and the visual arts; it is designed and planted with African trees and shrubs, and offers a fantastic setting to display traditional and modern sculptures from many African countries.

The centrepiece is a sculpture of African women walking in water, which has been designed by well known Nigerian sculptress Sokari Douglas Camp, and has been incorporated into a water feature by Charlie Dimmock.

The Eden Project – a living museum promoting an eco-friendly lifestyle - helped to supply plants and materials. It also loaned a magnificent sculpture of a baobab tree, which forms a focal point at one end of the garden. From design to completion, this programme follows the creation of a little piece of Africa in inner-city London.
