JOHNNY ENGLISH (article first published : 2005-05-20)

Mr Bean fans will be delighted to see funny man Rowan Atkinson playing an inept spy in the hilarious comedy, Johnny English to premier on M-Net on May 22. Directed by Peter Howitt, the movie also stars Natalie Imbruglia, Ben Miller, John Malkovich, Tim Pigott-Smith and Kevin McNally.

Rowan Atkinson is the brilliant physical comedian whose outrageous pratfalls and subversively innocent humour have made him a star in hilarious classics raging from UK series Blackadder to the worldwide hit, Mr Bean.

It all starts when Johnny English (Rowan Atkinson), a lowly clerk in Britainís MI-7, is tasked with the job of looking after the crown jewels. Not because Johnny is so good at looking after stuff but because all the real agents have been bumped off. The good thing about Johnny is that he knows no fear, know no danger but what the senior officials didnít know is that he knows Ö absolutely nothing!

Johnny is ecstatic and goes about his new responsibilities with his usual finesse - that is, no finesse at all! When the jewels are stolen, Johnny goes after the thief and uncovers a devilish plot.

The movie stormed the world with its international release earning 100 million dollars and 24.8 million pounds in UK.
