M-NET SERIES HIGHLIGHTS (article first published : 2005-04-27)

Fans of Extreme Makeover will love the second season of The Swan which will be aired on the M-Net Series Channel from May 19 at 22h00.

Anyone out there with a dream that they haven't achieved because of how they look? Do you believe that if you were able to get the looks you always wanted, you could then go on to achieve your deepest desires ... maybe even win a beauty pageant?

The Swan II goes beyond where other makeover shows end, offering women the opportunity to undergo complete life transformations, then following their journey afterwards as they accomplish their goals and bring their dreams to fruition.

The series’ team of Life Specialists - plastic surgeons, hair stylists, makeup artists, style consultants, speech therapists, and other life coaches - work on each woman “from the outside in” so that she can accomplish what she always wanted to achieve but couldn't due to limitations, perceived or otherwise.

Each of the contestants is assigned a team of specialists - a coach, therapist, trainer, cosmetic surgeon, dentist and stylist - who work together to design the perfect individually-tailored programme. This chance of a lifetime comes with a price: hard work. The show does not end once the cosmetic surgery and physical transformations are complete. Rather, contestants must go through an intensive "boot camp" of exercise, diet, therapy and inspiration to achieve their goals.

The format is especially dramatic because the contestants are not permitted to see themselves in a mirror during the three-month transformation process. Only the most beautiful and transformed women are selected to compete in the Swan Pageant and further their chances of being crowned "The Swan" during a dazzling, suspense-filled season finale.

Other series starting in May include Season 6 of The Drew Carey Show from May 7 at 20h30; Season 4 of Spin City from May 10 at 20h30; The Nanny from May 15 at 20h30, and Season 7 of Cheers from May 26 at 20h00.
