TALKING MOVIES (article first published : 2004-12-13)

BBC World on Channel 50 on DStv offers three interesting programmes this week.

On December 14 at 22h30, the programme discusses John Travolta's career which has had many ups and downs. However, he's trying to make yet another comeback in A Love Song For Bobby Long. Presenter Tom Brook asks the actor why he signed up for this low-budget drama. There are reviews of the heist sequel Ocean's Twelve and Clint Eastwood's boxing film Million Dollar Baby. And Christian Bale reveals how it feels to don a bat suit and play the caped crusader in the latest instalment of the Batman franchise, Batman Begins.

Top Gear can be seen on December 15 at 22h30. Each week, Jeremy Clarkson and the Top Gear team offer an alternative take on the motoring industry, giving honest and, sometimes, brutal reviews of the latest cars and refusing to regurgitate the PR spin from manufacturers' press releases. Among the models under the spotlight on this second programme in the series are the Ferrari Enzo, the Jaguar XJ220, the Porsche Carrera GT and the new Ford Focus, as well as McLaren's latest Formula 1 car.

Click Online concludes its two-part report on digital entertainment on December 16 at 22h30 by asking when it'll be legal to download films in the same way as music, and looks at the BBC's efforts to trial television downloads using the free filesharing networks. Plus, every winter, the French city of Lyon has a Festival of Light where many buildings are lit with breathtaking displays. The programme finds out how the best designers in the business are using computer software to create these illuminations.
