IMAX HELICOPTERS (article first published : 2004-11-25)

An e-mail from Tony-Kim Spradbury, Theatre Manager of IMAX Theatre Gateway, reads as follows:

“I had a phone call from a lady by the name of Nancy. Nancy's son goes to the school called Scholar Amoris. The school fees are R100 per year, they used to be R150, however this was not affordable. Only five out of 150 pupils can afford the school fees.

“The children are either mentally or physically handicapped that attend this school. One of the children at the school was left on a rubbish dump by his mother, however this child has survived and has no family. Many of the children have no family and on weekends do not even have a meal. They rely solely on the school for meals.

“Nancy resided in Johannesburg, however she has moved down to Umzinto as this school required her services. Nancy assists with the fundraising for the children. The school's last day for the year is on Friday November 19. I want to ensure that these kids have enough food and a special Xmas this year.

“I have arranged that JNC Helicopters flies Santa to their school field on Friday. Protea Hotel Karridene have donated me a wonderful XMAS lunch for the children, whilst they are eating and singing Santa shall arrive from the skies above.

“I am appealing to all the stores or individuals to please assist with any small donation or item of clothing or anything that you feel that would be special to these children. If you would like to join us on Friday at the school, please do not hesitate to contact me as I have no doubt that these special children will steal your hearts and souls as they have stolen mine.

“We often take so much for granted and only when you face an issue like this - do you realise how lucky we are. Please assist IMAX by making someone's day - maybe a year they will remember for the rest of their lives. I know that this is very short notice, should anyone wish to contact me, please phone me on my cell 083 619 3374. I look forward to hearing from you.
