TALKING MOVIES (article first published : 2004-07-10)

Talking Movies on the DStv channel takes a look at the latest from Camelot as King Arthur starring Clive Owen (Croupier) and Keira Knightley (Pirates of the Caribbean), premieres in New York. As Tom Brook reports, director Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) sets his version of this romantic British legend back in the Dark Ages to attempt a more realistic view of life with the Knights of the Round Table.

After his big break in the Christmas comedy Elf, actor Will Ferrell is in demand. The Saturday Night Live TV regular is due to be working on a dozen up-and-coming films, including a starring role opposite Nicole Kidman in the film of the '60s TV comedy, Bewitched.

Talking Movies is at the special screening of Ferrell's '70s-era news comedy Anchorman.

Tom Brook discovers that Michael Moore's controversial Fahrenheit 9/11 and its critique of the Bush administration isn't just an isolated example. Talking Movies looks at the latest crop of political films to be released in America before the presidential election, many of which appear deeply critical of the current US administration.

The rock documentary Metallica: Some Kind of Monster is an unusually frank account of one of the world's best-known heavy metal bands and how it almost fell apart. Talking Movies finds out if this non-fiction film can transcend the conventions of traditional "rock 'n' roll" movies.

Sixteen years after releasing The Bear, the French director Jean-Jacques Annaud has completed another live-action animal tale, Two Brothers. It's the story of tiger twins, separated as cubs, who are eventually reunited. Talking Movies hears that although it co-stars Guy Pearce (Memento, LA Confidential), the tigers steal the show.

Talking Movies will be screened on July 13 (21h30), July 16 (02h30, 09h30 and 15h30), July 15 (18h30) and July 17 (22h30).
