WIDOWS (article first published : 2004-06-29)

Academy Award –winner for The Fisher King and Tony Award-Winner for Lost in Yonkers, Mercedes Ruehl; Brooke Shields (Suddenly Susan), Rosie Perez (Fearless, The Road to El Dorado) and N'bushe Wright (Blade) star in M-Net’s four-hour suspense thriller miniseries, Widows.

The mini-series tells the story of three women whose husbands were killed in the midst of attempting a major art heist. The men were trying to steal a priceless Vermeer that had already been stolen ten years ago, in the famous robbery of Boston's Gardner Museum.

This group of women consists of an upper-middle-class housewife (Ms Ruehl), a used-car dealership employee (Ms Perez) and a low-rent actress (Ms Shields). They joined forces with an exotic dancer (Ms. Wright), whose husband missed while trying to find the killer and finish the job the men botched. The mini-series got the 2003 Image Award Nomination for an Outstanding Actress in a Television Movie, Miniseries or Dramatic Special.
