JAMES & VUSI (article first published : 2004-04-26)

The presenters for M-Net’s new continental reality show Project Fame, sponsored by MTN, are the dynamic duo of James Alexander and Vusi Twala. Soon be seen in over 40 African countries, the production will search for a gifted musician in the 11 participating countries.

Asked why two male presenters were selected instead of a male/female pairing as is traditionally the case, Rikkie Proost, Project Fame Producer and Director for Endemol says, “We weren’t specifically looking for a male duo but when we put these guys together in the audition we instantly knew we had a winning combination, the chemistry was just spot-on. Project Fame is a unique initiative and I am delighted that our presenting combination is unique as well.”

For James and Vusi respectively Project Fame provides the rare opportunity to work on a continental stage.

James says, “It’s my first time working with Vusi Twala but if the audition is anything to go by, it’s going to be great. We share a wacky sense of humour, we both want our work to be professional but we both want to have fun at the same time.”

Vusi adds, “James and I got on well from the moment we met for the show. We share similar attitudes to work but we have different personalities and I think that this factor is going to be very complementary. We both have our own perspectives and this will make for an interesting onscreen merge of characters.”

Project Fame starts on M-Net with four special one-hour documentaries every Sunday from May 23 to June 13 detailing the run-up to the show’s launch on June 20.
