ROSE RED (article first published : 2004-03-28)

Horror master Stephen King returns to television with an original six-part mini series- Stephen King’s Rose Red which will be screened on M-Net on Thursdays starting April 1 at 20h00.

Stephen King’s Rose Red is the chilling tale of psychology professor Dr Joyce Reardon who has expanded her field to include paranormal phenomena. She is determined to prove to the viciously cynical department chairman that “the unexplained” really exist and really happen.

Joyce commissions a team of six individuals who each possess a particular psychic skill, including automatic writing, telepathy and post-cognitive visions. Among them is Annie, a 15-year-old autistic girl whose psychic abilities are as powerful as they are incomprehensible.

She also wants to use the combined talents of her group to literally wake up a supposedly dormant haunted mansion, Rose Red, built in 1907 by Seattle oil magnate John P. Rimbauer. His wife, Ellen, had spent her life adding on to the house -- bizarre rooms like a mirror-floored library and stairs leading nowhere – until she mysteriously disappeared into it. Yet, over the decades since Mrs Rimbauer vanished and the construction stopped, the house has got bigger, seemingly all by itself.

The efforts of Joyce’s team unleash myriad spirits and uncover horrifying secrets of the generations who lived and died there, forcing some of the team to confront their own inner demons.
