M-NET PREMIERS (article first published : 2004-03-23)

M-Net is to premier four top movies in the first week of April.

Road To Perdition (April 1 at 22h15) is a drama with Tom Hanks, Paul Newman, Jude Law, Daniel Craig, Stanley Tucci and Jennifer Jason Leigh. Directed in 2002 by Sam Mendes, it is a coming-of-age story set in Al Caponeís Chicago, about a young boy who witnesses the atrocities of the Mob firsthand. American Beauty director Sam Mendes follows up his debut Oscar-winning triumph with this moody, elegant gangster flick set in Chicago in the 30s. Nominated for seven Oscars and winner of one (best cinematography), it revolves around a young boy (Tyler Hoechlin) who witnesses his beloved father, a hitman for the Mob, take revenge on the mobsters (his surrogate father and brother) who killed his wife and youngest son.

Sniper 2 (April 2 at 20h00) is an action movie with Tom Berenger, Bokeem Woodbine, Dan Butler, Dennis Hayden. In this film made in 2002 and directed by Craig R Baxley, an elite marine sharpshooter is sent into Bosnia to kill a Serbian general. Action lovers will enjoy this testosterone-charged sequel to Sniper, revolving around an elite marine sniper who is about to retire when he is roped into one last mission in Bosnia. Beckett must assassinate a Serbian general guilty of war crimes but he soon discovers that his superiors havenít told him everything, and the situation gets downright explosive.

Naked Passions (April 2 at 23h00). Directed by Marc Greenberg in 2001, this is an adult drama starring Robert Lombard. A fashion magazine writer pitches a load of steamy sex stories to Carly, his sexy editor for a new series of tales of sexual escapades in America inspired by a sex fantasy hotel in Amsterdam. There is an 18 age restriction.

Signs (April 4 at 20h00). This sci-fi thriller drama with Mel Gibson, Joaquin Phoenix, Cherry Jones was directed by M Night Shyamalan in 2002. It deals with a man who has to regain his faith in order to fight off an alien threat. After losing his wife in a car accident, Father Graham Hess loses his faith. Now he potters around on his farm, taking care of his two children and talking to his younger brother, who is trying to help him come to terms with his loss. One morning, the family finds crop circles in the fields. A practical joke, Graham thinks, but then reports of similar circles start coming in from around the world. Are aliens about to visit Earth? And if so, are they friendly or hostile? From the creator of The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable.
