BBC FOOD (article first published : 2003-12-8)

This December BBC Food on the DStv channel has cooked up a veritable feast to celebrate Christmas and see out the old year.

The 12 days of Christmas is a special schedule of festive fare and seasonal treats to inspire and entertain. It will be transmitted every evening from December 14 to 25 between 19h00 and 20h30.

Gary Rhodes has two brand new Christmas offerings bursting with flavour. In Gary Rhodes Perfect Christmas he serves up a traditional turkey in less than four hours and in Christmas with a Difference he prepares an alternative dinner of pork with apricot and sage stuffing. There are also some tricks in store for Christmas leftovers.

Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall spends Christmas at River Cottage and like everything about his rural life; itís a bit different in the country. Hugh cooks up a goose and goes in search of that elusive Yule log, while Nigel Slater and James Martin both offer their own unique look at Christmas cooking with their own Christmas specials.

TV audiences can take their seats at one of the greatest dinners ever created. In 1867 two Russian Tsars, the German Kaiser and Otto von Bismarck sat down in Paris for what has now been called The Three Emperorís Dinner. In a BBC Food special young Australian chef Shannon Bennett recreates this lavish French feast for modern times.

Canadian chef Michael Smith serves up two seasonal specials this December. See restaurant life unfold in the fly-on-the-wall documentary Saturday Night, as the cameras follow Michael and his team in the kitchen during the busiest night of the week and journey into the snowy Rocky Mountains for Christmas Canadian style in Mountain Magic.

Take a trip Down Under for some more world cuisine. Neil Perry serves up another alternative Christmas dinner with Lobster and Pork on the menu in a Food Source Christmas Special, while Kiwi Peter Gordon, the inspirational chef behind Londonís hip eatery Providores takes us on a fabulous tour of ĎPacific Rimí fusion cuisine in Pacific Harvest.

On top of the serious cooking, thereís a bit of fun as well. Join Richard E Grant and Arabella Weir in a spoof comedy cookery show as they pose and prance about the kitchen in Posh Nosh.

Thereís also the chance to catch up with BBC Food festive favourites featuring Nigella Lawson, Jamie Oliver, The Two Fat Ladies, Keith Floyd, Delia Smith, Antony Worrall Thompson and of course Alan Coxon.
