MONDAY NIGHT PREMIERS (article first published : 2003-11-9)

M-Net has a good line-up for Monday night premiers on the pay channel.

Bad Boys is an action comedy featuring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. Itís a funny, frenetic actioner about mismatched cop buddies who have to protect a witness while trying to recover stolen drugs. Mike and Marcus are both cops, but where Mike is a smooth-talking ladies' man, Marcus is happily married with a family. When a drug dealer steals a shipment of drugs from right under their noses, the salt-and-vinegar duo must team up to catch him or lose their jobs. Making their task even harder is the fact that a reluctant witness, whom they have to protect, will only speak to them if they impersonate one another! Plenty of bullets and explosions, but it's the banter between these two stars that is a real treat. From the director of The Rock.

Nutty Professor II - in this hilarious, gross-out sequel, Eddie Murphy plays no fewer than seven characters: the mild-mannered scientist, his brash alter ego and his eccentric relatives. In this movie, Sherman tries to extract the troublesome Buddy gene, with disastrous results. Nominated for scores of comedy and make-up awards.

Eddie Murphy also stars in the action movie 48 Hours with Nick Nolte. Jack has 48 hours to catch a killer, and the only man who can help him is Reggie, the killer's wise-cracking partner. But Reggie's behind bars. No problem. Jack gets Reggie a weekend pass, and the two are off, arguing every step off the way. Will they catch the killer? Perhaps. If Jack doesn't kill Reggie first!

Martin Lawrence appears in Black Knight with Tom Wilkinson, Marsha Thomason and Vincent Regan. Itís a medieval comedy about a modern-day amusement park worker who goes back in time to 14th century England. Jamal Walker is working as a cleaner in a medieval amusement park when he sees something shiny in the moat. He bends down to pick it up and Ė wham! Suddenly he's in 14th century England, saving the lives of noble knights and fair damsels and teaching them a move or two on the dance floor. But how soon before Jamal "Skywalker" meets his match?

In the comedy Big Mommaís House, Martin Lawrence appears with Nia Long and Paul Giamatti. On the run from her dangerous ex-boyfriend, Sherry decides to pay her grandmother a visit. But although grandma is still as fat as ever, there's something different about her. That's because "grandma" is really FBI agent Malcolm Turner in disguise! Described as a crude comedy with overtones of Mrs Doubtfire and The Nutty Professor.

Wesley Snipes can be seen in the sci-fi thriller Blade 2: Bloodlust where the hero forms an uneasy alliance with the vampire council in order to combat the Reapers vampires who feed on vampires. A rare mutation has occurred creating a vampire so consumed with an insatiable bloodlust that they prey on vampires as well as humans, transforming victims who are unlucky enough to survive into Reapers themselves. The Shadow Council curiously summons blade Whistler and an armoury expert named Scud. Blade tenuously enters into an alliance with The Bloodpack, an elite team of vampires trained in all modes of combat to defeat the Reaper threat. Blade's team and the Bloodpack are the only line of defense, which can prevent the Reaper population from wiping out the vampire and human populations.

Another Wesley Snipes movie is The Art Of War with Anne Archer. Ruthless terrorists threatening to bring down the United Nations frame the one man they believe can stop them - an international security expert who must run from his own allies as he tries to avert World War III.
