M-NET NOVEMBER SERIES (article first published : 2003-11-3)

M-Net has a good line-up of series planned for November.

On Tuesdays, at 19h00, starting November 4, it’s Jamie Kennedy Experiment 2, a weekly half-hour comedy series hosted by charismatic film star and stand-up comic Jamie Kennedy. The show irreverently pushes the sketch comedy and practical joke formats to new extremes. Off-the-wall humour and Kennedy's disarming personality, versatility and comedic acting skills combine to make this unique new series a sly combination of on-the-street sneak attacks and elaborate practical jokes. In addition to hosting the show in front of a studio audience, Kennedy can be seen, but maybe not recognized in his disguises, in nearly every prank, playing a variety of characters from a guy who hires people to be his friend on his birthday to a lifeguard who can't actually swim.

Wednesday series starting November 12 at 17h00 for 22 episodes is Diagnosis Murder VI, a light-hearted one-hour mystery series, starring Dick Van Dyke as Dr Mark Sloan, a good-natured and unconventional physician who also works as a consultant for the police department. Caring, compassionate and sometimes zany, Sloan’s passion for crime solving provides a healthy mix of medicine and classic suspense. Working alongside Sloan are his police investigator son, Steve; pathologist Amanda Bentley and doctor Travis.

A popular series also on Wednesdays at 19h30 is bound to be My Big Fat Greek Life, is a new half-hour comedy that picks up where the smash-hit film My Big Fat Greek Wedding left off. Nia Vardalos stars as Nia Portokalos, a Chicago woman from a loving, but smothering, old-fashioned Greek family who has broken with tradition and married a non-Greek teacher, Thomas Miller. Upon returning from their honeymoon, Nia and Thomas quickly realize that while her family must learn to accept them, they, in turn, must accept her family and their meddlesome ways.

The Thursday Mini-series slot includes the two-part Shackleton on November 6 and 13 at 20h00. One of the most expensive and ambitious television dramas ever made, Longitude director Charles Sturridge’s two-part film is not merely a recreation of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s ill-fated journey to the South Pole in 1914. Starring Kenneth Brannagh as Shackleton, it is a modern drama about a contradictory hero whose idiosyncratic leadership triumphs in the face of unbelievable adversity.

Outside The Rules is a two-part seires on November 27 and December 4 at 20h00. Forensic psychologist Natalie Vine assists the police in their hunt for violent criminals. She works in a secure hospital, where she attempts to understand the crimes and the minds of the dangerous criminals. Her expertise enables her to get inside the heads of both victims and perpetrators, as well as dig out the mental and emotional clues that unlock the crime. Natalie Vine played by Daniela Nardini is a new forensic psychiatrist dealing with most disturbing cases that the genre has to offer. Compelling, intelligent and passionate, Outside the Rules features gripping, sometimes harrowing storylines and powerful performances from the celebrity cast, including Anastasia hille (The Others, The Cazalets), Tim Dutton (Ally McBeal), and Leslie Phillips as Vine’s mentor, Hal Porter.
