ALONG CAME A SPIDER (article first published : 2003-01-22)

Along Came a Spider is M-Net's blockbuster premiere on February 2 at 20h00.

Adapted from best selling author James Patterson's highly acclaimed novel of the same name, Along Came a Spider stars three-time Academy Award nominee Morgan Freeman as Alex Cross, a Washington DC police detective and psychologist who is on the trail of a cunning psychopath.

When schizophrenic psychopath Gary Soneji (Michael Wincott) kidnaps the senator's daughter, a criminal profiler Alex Cross is assigned to find him. With the help of a secret service agent, the search is predicted to be easy. But a lot of surprising twists follow, making the stakes of catching the psychopath even higher. The issue is that Soneji does not want ransom; he wants something much bigger.

The detective (Freeman) and Secret Service agent (Monica Potter) create a formidable team that follows a path of leads with hidden agendas intertwined like a web of a spider. To be able to trap the kidnapper, the team finally identifies his need: He wants to be documented by Alex Cross after committing the crime of the century.

For producer David Brown, this is the fourth collaboration with the venerable Morgan Freeman after Kiss the Girls, Deep Impact and Driving Miss Daisy, the latter role providing an Oscar-nomination for the star.
