M-NET ENCORES (article first published : 2003-09-10)

Those who missed popular films first time round on the M-Net channel have a chance to see their favourites in the Encore slot.

September 11 at 22h50: Takedown, a thriller with Tom Berenger, Cara Buono and Scott Cooper. When an ace cyber-hacker breaks into the computer of a security expert, he encounters the biggest challenge of his brilliant hacking career. This film is about the capture of the notorious computer criminal Kevin Mitnick who used his technical skills and ability to influence people to gain access to things he really shouldn't have been able to access.

September 13 at 20h00: Proof Of Life, an action drama with Russell Crowe, Meg Ryan and David Morse. When hostage negotiator Terry Thorne agrees to help a woman whose husband has been kidnapped by South American revolutionaries, he has no idea just how hard, or personal, this assignment will become? This is the movie in which Crowe and Ryan fell in love for real!

September 14 at 22h15: Next Friday, a comedy with Ice Cube, Tamala Jones and Mike Epps is the politically incorrect sequel to Friday, the hit 1995 movie about three slackers. In this comedy, the one fellow is in jail, the other is living it up in the suburbs after winning a lottery, and the third is trying to avoid being put into jail (or worse) by a gangster fresh out of prison.

September 14 at 03h00: Dirty Pictures, a true-life-drama with Ann Marin, James Woods and Craig T Nelson. This is a fact-based story about a court case against Cincinnati museum director Dennis Barrie who held an exhibition of controversial photographer Robert Mapplethorpe's allegedly obscene work. The strain of the trial jeopardised Barrie's marriage, and eventually led to divorce.
