NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. Directed by Darrell Roodt, who received international acclaim for movies such as Yesterday and Sarafina, Ella Blue is a mini-series that will tug at the hearts of all South Africans. It is a tender love story set in the year 1961, a time when a small fishing community was torn apart as a result of race classification and the Group Areas Act of 1950. Ella Blue forms part of a series of dramatic mini-series, commissioned by M-Net, to tell our own stories on South African television. It stars Nathalie Boltt in the title role, as well as esteemed actors such as Tertius Meintjes, Jonathan Rands, Bo Peterson and Nico Panagio. It also marks the screen debut of Nina Milner, who’s bound to become a regular face on the small screen.
