SAMANTHA WHO? (article first published : 2008-03-16)

As a result of the writer’s strike, M-Net viewers will this year see some shows earlier than originally planned. On March 5 the new sitcom Samantha Who? starring Christina Applegate, will take over from The Big Bang Theory, of which new episodes will only be available at a later stage.

Samantha Who? won the 2008 People’s Choice Award for Favourite New Television Comedy. Leading lady Christina Applegate, whom many viewers will remember as airhead Kelly Bundy from Married With Children, also received a Golden Globe nomination and Screen Actors Guild Nomination for her performance in this sitcom.

She plays Samantha Newly, a young woman who suffers from retrograde amnesia after a hit-and-run incident. She has no recollection of her life before the accident, but soon learns that she was mean, vain, selfish and heartless and had many enemies. Who knows, the “accident” could even have been an attempted murder…

As our heroine begins the long, comic process of starting over, she fears that the “old Sam” will return or her would-be killer will try again. Samantha tries to re-invent herself through making good, positive choices – even though the bad ones are so much easier (and way more fun).
