CONCERT FOR DIANA (article first published : 2007-07-1)

July 1, 2007, marks what would have been Princess Diana’s 46th birthday and in honour of her legacy, M-Net is dedicating channel 37 on DSTV to the legendary “People’s Princess”. Viewers will be able to enjoy a broad selection of shows about Diana, with the highlight being the Concert for Diana from Wembley Stadium. This concert will not only be accessible to DSTV viewers as M-Net's Diana fans will also be able to watch this star-studded event when it is screened on M-Net on July 4 at 21h00!

Some of the artists performing at the concert include Anastacia, Josh Groban, Andrea Bocelli, Sarah Brightman, Donny Osmond and Jason Donovan, who will all be appearing in a special musicals medley which Andrew Lloyd Webber has put together especially for the Concert for Diana.

These artists join Elton John, Duran Duran, Bryan Ferry, Rod Stewart, Joss Stone, Lily Allen, Kanye West, Nelly Furtado, P.Diddy, Natasha Bedingfield, Tom Jones, Will Young, The Feeling, James Morrison, Orson, Status Quo, Pharrell Williams, Roger Hodgson and Take That! The star-studded bill reflects Diana’s as well as Prince William and Prince Harry’s favourites.

In recognition of Diana’s love of ballet, the concert will also include a performance by the English National Ballet, accompanied by the English National Ballet Orchestra.

The concert has been devised by William and Harry as a celebration of their mother’s life, and will be broadcast to millions of viewers in over 140 countries around the world, including South Africa. When they announced the concert last December, William and Harry explained that, 10 years on from their mother’s death, they wanted to celebrate her life and commemorate her achievements.
