EGOLI HOURLONG VIEWING FEAST (article first published : 2002-12-30)

The M-Net popular series Egoli makes history again. For five consecutive days from January 6 to 10, viewers will be treated to an hour of non-stop Egoli drama, romance and intrigue in five specially structured hourly episodes.

Egoli associate producer/head writer Frans Kalp was confronted with the challenge of structuring five hourly episodes after years of following a tried and tested method of 30 minute episodes: "For these episodes we worked with the structure and dramatic rhythm of a drama series which differs completely from that of a daily soap opera. As is often found in drama series, we also applied themes to the different episodes - for instance jealousy on Monday, revenge for Tuesday and of course passion for Friday night."

Executive producer of Franz Marx Films, Laurence Lurie, agreed that it was an exciting exercise to work on a different format: "One of the great things about working on Egoli is that M-Net allows us to explore new horizons. If this exercise proves successful we would like to repeat it again in the near future."

South African screen and television stars Sandra Prinsloo and Elzabé Zietsman will return to Egoli in these episodes, Sandra being part of the original cast in 1992 captivating viewers as the gold-digging socialite, Cecile Sinclair. Elzabé is also no stranger to the Egoli family and as the feisty redhead Kaye Knobel she once again arrives in Johannesburg with trouble looming not far behind.

The programmes will be broadcast on M-Net between January 6 to 10 from 18h00 to 19h00.
