FATE 4 AFRICA FOR FESTIVAL (article first published : 2005-07-8)

Afro-Jazz has been added to the bill for the multi-cultural concert at Midmar Resort, launching the Midlands Meander Creative Festival.

The popular Fate 4 Africa group – which plays regularly at jazz spots in the Midlands and in Durban – will join Maskandi, Isicathamiya, Gospel and Indlamu groups, as well as Spanish, Portuguese, Eastern and Fusion music/dance groups. (Fusion is a combination of the Eastern and Zulu traditions).

Fate 4 Africa consists of Tim Zondi (bass), from Inadi, Vulindlela; Simanga Zibula (guitar), from Edendale; and Miguel Eisenring (saxophone/flute), from Lidgetton.

The musical event – set up by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Arts, Culture and Tourism – will launch the Midlands Meander Creative Festival, where 20 courses in arts and crafts will run from July 15 to 24, conducted by experts in their field.

The launch at Midmar on July 16 will also feature an Expo of arts and crafts from across KwaZulu-Natal. The entertainment programme continues the next day.

The Festival is intended to showcase KwaZulu-Natal’s vibrant artistic and cultural diversity. It is also intended as a pilot project for a broader Arts and Culture Festival next year, which will encompass the performing arts and will involve various centres in the Midlands. It will be officially opened by KwaZulu-Natal’s Minister of Arts, Culture and Tourism, Mr Narend Singh.
