GRAHAMSTOWN FESTIVAL DATES (article first published : 1999-11-22)

Taking place in the historic town of Grahamstown in the Eastern Cape, the annual Standard Bank National Arts Festival has set its dates for the year 2000 at June 30 to July 8. The festival covers all disciplines of the arts as well as a highly popular Winter School lecture series and a programme of Children's Theatre.

While entries for the official/main programme have to be in by August 31 of the preceding year, artists wishing to perform or exhibit on the Fringe should apply for registration forms from the Festival Office. The Fringe is open to all, no selection criteria are applied and the closing date will be sometime in the new year. Contact festival director Lynette Marais or festival officer Kate Axe.

The Standard Bank National Arts Festival reflects many facets of a dynamic artistic community while striving to introduce yet wider-reaching representation of the complex mosaic of the creative spirit of all South Africans. For a free copy of the Festival programme preview, which is distributed in February each year, send a postcard with your name and address to the Festival Director. The preview has Booking Kit details, a comprehensive guide to what's on, as well as accommodation and travel information. The kit also includes events, ticket prices, dates, performance details and booking information as well as an application form for the Fringe postal booking scheme which becomes available at the end of May.

Address: PO Box 304, Grahamstown, Eastern Cape, 6140. Phone: (046) 622-4341 or fax (046) 622-3082. e-mail: sbnaf@foundation.intekom.com or visit the website on http://www.sbfest.co.za/
