INTRODANS (article first published : 2004-06-29)

Provocative, innovative, contemporary and accessible; these are words that have been used to describe the acclaimed Netherlands dance company Introdans who will be performing in South Africa in July.

During the South African tour Introdans, will present the world première of Left with Ashes by South African choreographer and dancer, Sbonakaliso Ndaba.

Since 1971, Introdans has grown into one of the biggest and most active dance companies in the Netherlands. It is the only company of its kind in Europe presenting shows for both children and adults. Introdans also has an active education department, which arranges projects in school and in theatres.

Introdans and Sbonakaliso Ndaba will be performing at the Wits Theatre in Braamfontein on July 3 and 4 and at the Grahamstown National Arts Festival on July 6 and 7.

Along with the world première of Left with Ashes, the Netherlands company will present their acclaimed programme Emotions which features the work of five choreographers: Spanish choreographer Nacho Duato (Na Floresta), British choreographer Richard Wherlock (Rushes), Hans van Manen (Shorthand), Ton Wiggers (Passage) and Nils Christe (La Notte).

The Introdans dancers coming to South Africa include Diego Brichese, Gaëtan Chailly, Femke Feddema, Lotje Gores, Eva Henning, Ben Holder, Pilar Marti Murciano, Jiska Nooijen, Carline van Oel, Mélanie Oger, Ruben Pit, Andrey Podlasov, Katherine Stimson, Serguei Shamota, Gábor Szigeti, Dario Tortorelli and Stein Fluijt.

Ton Wiggers will be holding workshops at the Wits Theatre during the Introdans visit.

Introdans is sponsored by the Royal Netherlands Embassy.

Performances are at the Wits Theatre in Johannesburg on July 3 ((20h00) and July 4 (15h30). Performances at the Grahamstown National Arts Festival are at the Guy Butler Hall on July 6 (19h00) and July 7 at 11h00.

Booking is at Computicket or at the door. There are special discounts for students and pensioners.
