MAGIC MAN HENDINI (article first published : 2002-06-9)

Magic Man Hendini will premiere his new magic trick in honour of Mark Shuttleworth at the upcoming NOT Festival on June 22 and 23.

When Mark Shuttleworth, so hiply and so squarely, blasted off into space recently, Magic Man Hendini was inspired. He immediately rushed off to his workshop and started inventing a new illusion based on Markís adventure.

He was gone for days and strange lights and weird sounds emerged from his magical workshop. At times he was seen storming out in a tiff, only to disappear again. He emerged several days later, exhausted but triumphant. But this was not the end of his work. After a quick bath, a meal and some shuteye, he started the long and hard process of rehearsing his new illusion. Days turned into weeks in front of the mirror, where he was going through his paces.

Then came the trials. His family and friends were roped together (literally) to comment on the new illusion. A few changes here, some small adjustments there, and finally! The new illusion is ready.

Called The Astronauties, it follows the story of Markís space adventure. It simulates the blast off, zero gravity conditions, the transfer to the space station, the trip back home. And it features a very naughty space-fellow who simply canít sit still.

To catch his newest show Magic Man Hendiniís Fantabulous Cheat-O-Rama, visit the NOT Festival at Durban High School with performances on June 22 at 10h00 and June 23 at 16h00.

Book at Computicket or at the door. More information about the show from Hendrik on 083 698-7998 or 031 261-5686.
